In 2018, he was - still in the service of the large European venture capitalist Lakestar - sought a partnership with UnternehmerTUM, many other investment firms had docked there before him and also after. “The incubators are, in a way, the bridgehead that provides a platform for industry contacts, investors, people looking to start up and professors,” says Schmitz - a decisive advantage. As a contact person, TUM Managing Director Helmut Schönenberger allowed him to quickly get into the ecosystem. “The numerous accelerators and incubation programmes are not always unicorn breeding grounds, but they make founding accessible and take away the fear,” says Schmitz.
